Osteoarthritis of the Knee Learning Center

Please, Watch Your Step

"Everyone with knee or hip pain should get an evaluation of his or her gait alignment," says the Thurston Arthritis Research Center's Dr. Jordan. "In one of our research projects, we found that five to seven percent of people in the general population have differences in the length of their legs—and that can lead to painful arthritis of the hip and knee joints. For some people, putting a lift into a shoe to even out the gait may help knee pain dramatically."

Ask your physical therapist or physician to measure your legs and then, if necessary, to recommend a source for orthotic inserts for your shoes.
